McCann, Theobald, Bergam Take Sam Adams Classic Wins

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women won three events at the Sam Adams Classic track meet hosted by Whitworth University Saturday.
Redshirt freshman Jordan McCann won the 800 meters in a career-best 2:19.25. Freshman Kelly Williams finished fourth in a career-best 2:22.68.
Sophomore Catherine Theobald won the 1500 meters in a career-best 4:47.24 to lead a 1-2-3 Bulldog sweep. Freshman Erin Bergmann was second in a career-best 4:52.77 and freshman Alyssa Zuehlsdorff finished third in 4:54.99, her first sub-five-minute finish in her young career.
Junior Lauren Bergam captured the 5000 meters in 18:04.89, leading a sea of blue across the finish line as Gonzaga took the top five spots. Freshman Maggie Jones, returning to action for the first time since the season opener, was second in 18:20.13 in her first attempt at the distance. Freshmen also occupied the next three spots as Alison Fraher was third in a career-best 18:43.37, Elizabeth Ryan was fourth in 18:45.53 and redshirt freshman Lara Tuthill was fifth in 18:48.49, breaking the 19-mminute barrier for the first time in her career.
On the men's side, freshman Brent Felnagle took third in the 800 meters in 1:56.21 in his first career race at the distance and came back to finish fifth in the 1500 meters in 3:58.34 as he dropped down from the 5,000 meters for the first time in his career. Sophomore Ben Lance (3:59.52) and juniors Andrew Walker (3:59.68) and Tate Kelly (3:59.88) took eighth through 10th, respectively, in finishing in less than four minutes.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Battle of the Pacific Northwest WAR V next Saturday at Whitworth.
