Bulldogs Win Doubles Point Again But Fall To Dons

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team's secured the doubles point for the second day in a row but the University of San Francisco won four singles matches to beat the Bulldogs 4-1 in the opening round of the consolation bracket in the West Coast Conference Championship held at the Barnes Tennis Center Friday.
Seniors Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer posted their 10th doubles win of the season with an 8-5 result at the No. 1 spot. Senior Clare Dodge and junior Kristina Zauere posted their team-leading 13th win of the spring with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. Senior Jackie Tabb and junior Sophie Lantta were on the verge of completing the sweep with a 7-4 lead but the Bulldogs secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 courts.
Although they claimed the doubles point, the Bulldogs couldn't carry the momentum into singles. The No. 8 seed Dons won four of the six singles matches to win the match and advance.
The Bulldogs return to the court one more time Saturday, taking on No. 6 seed University of Portland in a battle for seventh place in the tournament at 8 a.m. The two Pacific Northwest schools met earlier in the season in Portland, with the Bulldogs beating the Pilots 5-2 March 26.
