Bulldogs Re-Write Personal Bests At Oregon Relays

EUGENE, Ore. - Gonzaga University runners re-wrote their personal bests Friday at the Oregon Relays as eight career bests were established.
Four Bulldog men set career bests in the 5000 meter B Section run. Sophomore Chris Boyle finished sixth in 14:35.33 to better his previous best of 14:59.33 in WAR IV at Spokane Falls Community College earlier this spring. Boyle just missed the school record of 14:34.72 set in 2005.
Andrew Walker was 11th in 14:41.05, also bettering his mark of 14:57.52 set in WAR IV. Tate Kelly finished 15th in 14:55.99 to break the 15-minute barrier for the first time and better his career mark of 15:08.45 at the Dusty Lane Open earlier this season. Robert Walgren was 18th in 15:03.63 to erase 10 seconds off his previous best of 15:13.85 at the Dusty Lane Open.
Sophomore Lauren Bergam broke 18 minutes in the 5000 meters, placing eighth in the B Section run in 17:49.75 to easily better her previous PR of 18:05.49.
In the women's 5000 meter Emily Thomas finished 10th with a PR of 17:22.97, taking nine seconds off her career best of 17:31.06. Brittany O'Regan finished 13th with a season best 17:27.57 and Laura Volcheff was 14th in a season best 17:30.34.
Patrick Richie was eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:51.96 to better his PR of 9:53.96 set in the Dusty Lane Open.
Freshman Catherine Theobald finished sixth in Section 2 of the 800 meters B Section in a career best 2:20.77, a mark which placed her 14th overall, while Jordan McCann was ninth in Section 1 in 2:22.22 to place 15th overall.
In the men's 1500 meter B Section run, Matt Gosselin finished eighth in Section 2 in 4:04.38 while Andy Phillips was right behind in 4:05.01, Gosselin placing 17th overall while Phillips was 19th.
