BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing team placed fourth at the third-annual Dale England Cup, hosted by Indiana University at Lemon Lake in Bloomington, Ind., with 42 points Saturday. Michigan State University won the event with 120 points and the host Hoosiers placed second with 100 points. Rounding out the cup was Boston University who took third with 68 total points.
The Bulldogs lone victory on the second day of the Dale England Cup came in the afternoon session. The Zag Novice 8+, rowing in winds gusting between 12 and 22 miles per hour, defeated Boston University by three seconds. GU finished the 2,000-meter course in 7:15.1 and the Terriers finished in 7:18.0.
The Gonzaga Varsity 8+ rowed tough against Boston University in the afternoon session as well, but the Terriers were able to earn the four-second victory with a time of 6:47.5. Gonzaga crossed the finish line at 6:51.3.
The Zag Varsity 4+'s fastest race of the weekend came against Michigan State Saturday morning. The Bulldogs rowed the 2,000-meter course in 7:50.0. The Spartans Varsity 4+ won the race 7:34.2, with their Second Varsity 4+ following at 7:47.1.
Gonzaga now has nearly two weeks before its next regatta. The Bulldogs will race against Western Washington University Saturday, April 16 on Lake Samish in Bellingham, Wash. Race times have not yet been decided.
