MOSCOW, Idaho - Personal season bests seemed to be the norm Saturday as Gonzaga University concluded the 2009 track season at the Vandal Jamboree at the University of Idaho.
The main purpose of the meet was to give area student-athletes one last chance at establishing NCAA qualifying marks, but several Bulldogs used it as a chance to cap their season in style.
The small contingent of Bulldog women was especially impressive. Corrina O'Brien captured the 1500 meters in 5:01.35, and three other Bulldogs in the race achieved season bests. Lindsey Drake was second in 5:02.28, Molly Moore was third in 5:31.91 and Ashlee Commeree was fifth in 5:42.25.
In the women's 5,000, freshman Elizabeth Slamkowski, who has run the 1,500 meters all season, stepped up to the longer distance and came away a winner in 18:59.83. Teresa Makowski was third in 21:15.50.
On the men's side the Bulldogs dominated the 5,000 meters as Andrew Walker captured the event in 15:23.44. Matt Mach was third in 16:05.75, Patrick Moore fourth in 16:15.02, Brian Slamkowski fifth in 16:19.56, Robby Hayes ninth in 16:56.40 and Dana Walters 10th in 17:17.65.
Hans Hagmeier finished third in the 800 meters in a season best 1:59.37 while Jared Graham was seventh in 2:07.98.
John Irwin, who competed at 800 meters in his last two outings, went back to his more familiar 400 meters and ran a 53.53 for 14th.
