SPOKANE, Wash. - Despite the weather wreaking havoc in Spokane, the Gonzaga University men's rowing squad will open its spring racing schedule at home Saturday with a dual against UC San Diego.
The Spokane area was hit with nearly six inches of snow this past Monday and is now trying to crawl out from under the record breaking arctic air mass that has hit the area. Because of the unfortunate weather, the Bulldogs will move the dual race from their home venue on Silver Lake in Medical Lake to Mica Bay on Lake Coeur d'Alene in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The bay of water the Zags will race on does not have public access, and because of this the event will be closed to the public.
"We are excited to get the racing season started," stated head coach Dan Gehn. "Mother nature, though, has not been the kindest to us."
Gonzaga lineups for the first dual of the season are listed below:
Varsity 8+: Alex Chalk, Matt White, Greg Malman, Pat Swihart, Andrew Krug, Conner Wege, Benjamin Schwarz, Brendan McCarthy, Mike Anderson.
Junior Varsity 8+: Sean Finerty, Julian Stephanski, Pat Moran, Neil Coppinger, Will Griffith, Brian Franceschi, KC Anderson, Nick Willard, Matt Berry.
Novice 8+: TBD
