Zags Produce Strong Showing At Head of the Lake

SEATTLE, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's rowing closed out its fall season with a strong showing at the Head of the Lake Regatta, co-hosted by the University of Washington and Lake Washington Rowing Club. The Bulldogs, rowing in three races, earned a second place, third place and a sixth place finish.
"We had good performances by both the Junior Varsity and the Freshman, who rowed in the Third Varsity race," stated head coach Dan Gehn. "The JV raced well and was just a boat length behind Oregon State.
"The Varsity raced better than they have in recent weeks. I was still a bit disappointed in where we finished but overall I think it was a strong finish to the fall."
The Freshman 8+, racing as the Third Varsity 8+ for GU, placed second in its respective race and has the Bulldogs second fastest time of the morning. The Zags were so close to capturing the victory but were one second behind Victoria who won with a time of 17:04.37. Gonzaga had a finish of 17:05.85.
The Junior Varsity 8+ took third in its race with a finish 17:07.89. Oregon State University was just a boat length faster than the Zags and captured second with a time of 17:05.31. The University of Victoria won the race, crossing the finish line at 17:00.92.
In the marquee Varsity 8+ race, the University of Washington `B' claimed the win with the days only sub-16 minute finish at 15:48.77. The Husky A boat was second at 16:15.02 and Victoria rounded out the top three with a time of 16:23.06. Gonzaga placed sixth, crossing the finish line in 16:57.53.
