SEATTLE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's rowing ended its fall season with one of its best performances to date in 2009-10. The Bulldogs earned a top three finish in two races and claimed sixth and seventh place in another race at the Head of the Lake Sunday, co-hosted by the University of Washington and the Lake Washington Rowing Club.
"Overall, the Head of the Lake was a really good end to our fall season," explained head coach Melissa Flint. "Everybody was happy with their individual races and I think it was a good way to go into winter training. We are now really looking forward to continuing to build on this through winter into spring."
In the marquee Varsity 8+ race, it was a battle between three Washington schools for the top spot. Washington ultimately claimed the victory, crossing the finish line in 17:41.64. Washington State University, who the Bulldogs have now race three-straight weekends, was second at 17:49.64. Gonzaga earned third place with a time of 18:16.14.
The Junior Varsity 8+ race also was a battle between the Huskies, Cougars and Bulldogs. UW earned the victory again with a time of 18:29.05. WSU took second at 18:59.42 and GU was third with a finishing time of 19:30.30.
