Bullldogs Post Wins in First Day of GU/EWU Classic

CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team had nine players and/or doubles pairings post victories in the first day of the GU/EWU Classic played at Eastern Washington University Friday.
Senior Aglaya Kokurina recorded a 6-3 6-3 victory over University of Montana's Amanda Bran in the first round of the #1 Singles bracket. All four Bulldogs competing in the #2 Singles bracket posted wins in their first round matches.
Sophomore Clare Dodge, freshmen Madeline Parker, Sophie Lantta and Monica Price all recorded wins for the Zags. In the #3 Singles bracket, sophomore Allyson Lee and freshman Kristina Zauere also posted victories for the Bulldogs and advanced to the second round.
Kokurina and Dodge paired up later in the day and advanced to Saturday's third round after posting two wins in Friday's first and second rounds of the doubles groupings. Kokurina and Dodge beat Seattle University's Katrina Schaab and Aya Sugimoto 8-4 and added another 8-4 victory in the second round. The sophomore pairing of Danielle Farmer and Rika Mehndiratta also advanced to the third round of the doubles bracket after beating University of Portland's Stephanie Fuchs and Megan Sporndli 8-1. The freshmen pairing of Lantta and Parker posted an 8-1 victory of Portland State University's Caitlin and Anya Dalkin earlier in the day.
