Bulldogs Advance A Pair To Third Round

CHENEY, Wash. - Freshman Kristen MacWilliam posted her fourth win of the fall season and GU advanced a pair to the round of 16 Friday as the Gonzaga University women's tennis team participated in the Red Lion Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.
Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, University of Idaho, University of Montana, University of Portland and Lewis-Clark State College are all competing in the tournament.
MacWilliam registered her fourth win of the fall season, with a victory over Eastern's Claudia Gonzales in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. MacWilliam advanced to fall in the round of 32 to eighth-seeded Christie Feyen of Portland.
Third-seeded Emily Anderson earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eagles' Illiana Petrova. Anderson will now advance to the round of 16 on Saturday.
Also advancing to the round of 16 was Sydney Lederhouse. In the round of 32, Lederhouse earned a come-back from behind victory over LCSC's Maria Resende, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16.
Gonzaga's Erin Humphrey also posted a victory for the afternoon. Humphrey posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the round of 64 over Idaho's Kasey King. In the round of 32, Humphrey fell 6-1, 6-1 to seventh-seeded Mari Castello of Montana.
Also competing for GU in the tournament was Kimberly Aigner, Katie Colton, Courtney Lau, Kendall Bates and Carrie Schofield. All six fell in the round of 32.
In doubles play, the GU pair of Aigner and Colton posted close 9-7 victory over EWU's duo of Aragones and Smedley. Ashton Aguilar and Kelley Bergen of Gonzaga fell to Eastern's Amanda Mankovitz and Petrova, 8-1.
The three-day Red Lion Invitational continues Saturday on Eastern's campus in Cheney, Wash.
