Zags Continue Play at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team continued play in the UNLV Women's Fall Invitational on Saturday with Amanda Becker recording a win in singles play and Kendall Bates and Emily Anderson teaming together for a victory in doubles play.

Becker picked up GU's lone win in singles play as she handed the University of Tulsa's Thalia Barriga a straight sets loss in the consolation bracket, 6-2, 6-4. In the same bracket, Emily Anderson was defeated by Oklahoma State University's Zuzanna Osinska, but she didn't go down without a fight. After dropping the first set 6-4, Anderson dug in and found herself back on even playing terms with Osinka after defeating her 6-4. The two then battled the third and final set to a tie break, with the win going to Osinka, 7-6 (5).

In other singles play Gonzaga had Bates fall to Tulsa's Kindsay Gromes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, freshman Courtney Lau was defeated by Tulsa's Julie Westfall, 6-1, 6-0, Erin Humphrey was defeated by Texas A&M University's Raquel Wagner, 6-2, 6-3 and Carrie Schofield was defeated by OSU's Tawna Allen, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play the team of Bates and Anderson picked up the Bulldogs lone win when they downed OSU's Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt, 9-8 (5). The Bulldogs' other doubles team of Humphrey and Lau were defeated by Texas A&M's team of Seva Iwinski and Marisa Druss, 8-3.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday as they close out play in the UNLV Women's Fall Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
