Zags Open Play at UNLV Tounament.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team opened play at the UNLV Women's Fall Invitational hosted by UNLV on Friday. The four team tournament consisted of Gonzaga, UNLV, Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Tulsa.

In singles action Gonzaga saw all six players competing get defeated in the first round of play. Amanda Becker was defeated by Texas A&M's Ale Jordan in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. Emily Anderson was defeated by UNLV's Sharon Marin, 6-0, 6-2 in the second flight of singles matches.

Flight three of singles play featured Gonzaga's lone senior Kendall Bates. She was defeated in straight sets by Texas A&M's Seva Iwinski, 6-3, 6-1.

In flight four of singles play Courtney Lau lost in straight sets to UNLV's Claire Smith, 6-0, 6-1 and Erin Humphrey lost to Tiffany Smith of Tulsa, 6-1, 6-4.

Carrie Schofield was GU's final competitor at singles play in the fifth and final flight. She was defeated by UNLV's Mery Constanti in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles play fared no better for the Bulldogs as GU's three doubles tandems were all defeated. In flight two of doubles Anderson and Bates teamed together for GU but were defeated by Texas A&M's Tiffany Clifford and Anna Blagodarova, 9-7.

In flight four of doubles play GU's tandem of Humphrey and Lau were defeated by Tulsa's Smith and Julie Westfall, 8-6 and the Bulldogs' final doubles tandem of Becker and Schofield were defeated by UNLV's Cindy Treber and Constanti, 8-2.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday in day two of the UNLV women's Fall Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
