Two Bulldog Boats Finish 7th In The Nation

CAMDEN, NJ - Gonzaga University men's rowing had two boats finish 7th in the nation after the Bulldogs varsity 4+ and freshmen 4+ both won Saturday's Petite Finals at the IRA National Championships at Cooper River in Camden, NJ. Temple University won the freshmen 4+ national title while Stanford University won the varsity 4+ title.
Gonzaga's men's varsity 4+ rowed a time of 6:41.71 to win the six-team Petite Final by a 1.5-second margin over Long Beach State. Harvard University was a half-second behind Long Beach State in third followed by Wisconsin, Minnesota and Temple. This is the second consecutive Top 10 national finish for the Bulldogs varsity 4+ after a 9th place finish last year.
Gonzaga's varsity 4+ consisted of coxswain Erin Palmiter (JR - Kalispell, MT), stroke Connor Barry (JR - Walla Walla, WA), Pat Haffey (SR - Spokane, WA), Nathan Wilson (SR - Post Falls, ID) and bow Matthew Wernette (SO - Lodi, CA).
The Bulldogs freshmen 4+ also turned in a solid piece to win the Petite Final by 3-seconds over Hobart College. The Naval Academy was .09 seconds behind Hobart in third place followed by Cornell, Brown and Colgate. Last year Gonzaga's freshmen 4+ was 15th in the nation.
Gonzaga's freshmen 4+ will consist of coxswain Joan Aubry (FR - Olympia, WA), stroke Joe Dudley (FR - San Francisco, CA), Warren North (FR - Seattle, WA) , Brett Boissevain (FR - Boulder, CO) and bow Scott McCoy (FR - Fair Oaks, CA).
