SALEM, Ore. - Jill Semenza and Joe Miller re-wrote the Gonzaga University record book in Friday's first day of the Willamette Inivtational.
Semenza continued her win-a-week pace by capturing the 10,000 meters in a school mark 36:11.21, nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Tausha Kuzmic of Lewis-Clark College who finished in 37:07.20. Molly Follen of the Bulldogs was fourth in 37:53.30.
Semenza, who ran 38:17.34 in her only 10,000 perfromance in 2004 at this meet, broke the Gonzaga record of 37:13.07 set by Tana Caskey in 2001. Semenza has now won races at 1500, 3000, 5000 and 10,000 meters this spring.
Miller, meanwhile, continued his outstanding spring with his fourth victory in winning the 5000 meters in 14:34.72 to break his school mark of 14:55.68 set last year in this meet. Miller has posted two wins each at 1500 and 5000 meters this year.
While Semenza and Miller stole the Gonzaga highlights in the two-day meet held on Friday and Saturday, there were a couple of other solid Bulldog performances.
Emily Buck was fourth in the 1500 meters in 4:49.59, Ryan Anderson was fifth in the 100 meters in 3:58.56.
