Men's Varsity Crew Headed To San Diego Crew Classic

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's varsity crew will compete in the 32nd annual San Diego Crew Classic this weekend at the Mission Bay Course. The Bulldogs were slotted in lane No. 1 in the Cal Cup with Orange Coast College in lane No. 2 followed by UC San Diego, the University of Colorado, UC Irvine, the University of Notre Dame and San Diego State University. The University of Minnesota and Trinity University (CT) were placed in lane No. 1 in the second and third heats of the Cal Cup. The top two boats from each heat advance to the Cal Cup Grand Final on Sunday morning. Gonzaga won the Cal Cup Grand Final two years ago before winning the Petite Final last year.
The Bulldogs varsity 8+ boat will include coxswain Lauren Gadeken, stroke Connor Barry, Pat Haffey, Scott McCoy, Nathan Wilson, Ben Foley, David Hinshaw, Joe Dudley and bow Warren North.
While the Gonzaga men's varsity boat competes in the San Diego Crew Classic, the Bulldogs junior varsity boat will race at the NCRC Invitational at Lake Vancouver, Wash. The Bulldogs will race at Noon on Saturday and will be set in lane No. 4. Also competing in the event are junior varsity crews from Seattle University, University of Puget Sound, Western Washington University, Lewis and Clark College, Willamette University and Pacific Lutheran University.
The Bulldogs junior varsity 8+ will include coxswain Elaine Parry, stroke Ben Rosenblatt, Michael Smoot, Matthew Wernette, Derek Clemmensen, Matthew White, Brett Boissevain, Justin Bayley and Drew Hastings.
